We need to have a conversation that is going to make some people angry. Good. Let them be angry. We are trying to stay alive.
If you have been following The 54/12 Project, you know we advocate for "Secret Service" vetting and strict "No Boyfriend" rules in our Care Circles. Some people think we are being dramatic. They think we are being "man-haters."
But the numbers don't lie. And right now, the numbers say that Black women are being hunted.
In North Carolina, Black women are murdered at nearly three times the rate of white women. Nationwide, 9 out of 10 Black women murdered by men are killed by someone they know.
This isn't "stranger danger." The call is coming from inside the house.
We are facing a two-front war: Black Femicide (the physical violence) and Misogynoir (the hatred of Black women). And if we want to survive, we have to stop waiting for a "Savior" and start building a Fortress.
Here is how we protect our families and, more importantly, how we raise sons who won't grow up to become the statistics we fear.
1. Identify the Enemy: The "Red Pill" Infection
In 2025, the danger isn't just the man with a record; it's the man with a mindset.
There is a growing "Manosphere" / "Red Pill" movement online that targets Black men specifically. It teaches them that women are objects to be controlled, that "submission" is owed rather than earned, and that Black women are "masculine," "difficult," or "undeserving" of protection.
The Hard Rule: If a man listens to podcasts that degrade women, if he talks about "High Value Men" while sleeping on your couch, or if he refers to women as "females" with a sneer—he is a safety risk.
Misogynoir is the precursor to violence. A man who does not respect your humanity will eventually threaten your life. Do not let this energy near your children.
2. Kill the "Ride or Die" Spirit
For too long, Black women have been taught that suffering is a virtue. We are taught to "hold him down" even when he is dragging us under.
The "Pick-Me" Trap: We see women endangering their children just to say they "have a man." They let unvetted boyfriends move in. They ignore the red flags.
The Reality: Your children should not be collateral damage so you can have a relationship. Your home is a sanctuary, not a rehab center for broken men.
The Survival Pivot: Replace "Ride or Die" with "Vet or Veto." If he brings chaos, legal trouble, or disrespect, he gets the Veto. Immediately.
3. Stop Glorifying "304" Culture
We are raising Kings and Queens, not commodities.
Pop culture (and "City Girl" rap) tries to convince us that transactional relationships are "empowerment." They tell our daughters that their value is in their body, and our sons that their value is in their wallet.
This is a lie.
A culture that centers money over morality produces men who kill when they feel "disrespected" and women who put themselves in dangerous situations for a bag.
We value Legacy. We value Lineage. We value Protection (Chivalry).
The Mandate: Raising Kings in a War Zone (The Science of Survival)
The most powerful thing we can do to stop Black Femicide is to raise better men. We cannot complain about "dusty" men and then raise our sons to be "dusty." We have to break the cycle in our own living rooms.
To do this, we have to look at the science of trauma. Dr. Joy DeGruy, in her groundbreaking work Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome, explains that many of our "traditional" parenting styles are actually trauma responses passed down from slavery.
If we want to save our sons (and the women they will one day love), we have to change the script.
1. Stop the "Slave Breaking" (The Protection Trap)
Dr. DeGruy speaks about how enslaved mothers would "crush" their sons' spirits or belittle them publicly to keep them from appearing "threatening" to the Master. If he was proud, he would be killed. If he was broken, he might survive.
The Modern Trap: Today, we see mothers being overly harsh, yelling, or physically punishing their sons to "toughen them up" for a racist world.
The Consequence: Neuroscience tells us that constant high stress (cortisol) shrinks the part of the brain responsible for empathy and impulse control. If you break his spirit at home, he doesn't learn "respect"; he learns that might makes right.
The Fix: The world is tough enough. Your home must be the Safe Harbor. Discipline him, yes—but do not humiliate him. A boy who feels safe at home doesn't need to prove he's "tough" in the streets.
2. Cure "Vacant Esteem" Before the Streets Do
Dr. DeGruy describes "Vacant Esteem" as the belief that you have little intrinsic worth. When a black boy feels the world hates him, and he doesn't feel built up at home, he has a hole in his soul.
The Danger: A man with Vacant Esteem tries to fill that hole with external things: money, women, violence, and domination. He hurts women to feel powerful because he feels small inside.
The Fix: Pour into your son. Praise his character, not just his sports ability or his looks. Praise his kindness. Praise his logic. Build an internal sense of worth so strong that he doesn't need to degrade a woman to feel like a King.
3. Teach Emotional Granularity (The Antidote to Rage)
Society tells our boys that "Real Men Don't Cry." This is a lie that leads to murder.
The Science: Psychologists call this "Alexithymia"—the inability to identify emotions. If the only emotion a boy is allowed to show is "Anger," then everything feels like anger. Sadness feels like anger. Rejection feels like anger. Fear feels like anger.
The Fix: Give him the vocabulary. When he is acting out, help him name it: "You aren't mad, you are embarrassed." "You aren't aggressive, you are disappointed."
The Result: A man who can say "I am hurt" does not need to punch a wall—or a woman—to communicate.
4. The "First Woman" Rule (Neuroscience of Attachment)
Your son learns how to view the entire female gender by watching you and how he interacts with you.
The Boundary: Do not fall into "Emotional Incest." Your son is not your "Little Husband." He is not there to listen to your problems with men or pay your bills. Let him be a child.
The Standard: Demand chivalry, not servitude.
Wrong: He sits playing the game while you cook and clean around him. (This teaches him women are servants).
Right: "I cooked, you clean." "Open the door for me." "Carry these bags."
Why: You are programming his brain to associate "Woman" with "Value," not "Labor."
5. Counter-Programming (The Epigenetics of Culture)
We know that the environment shapes genetics (Epigenetics). If you plant a seed in toxic soil, it becomes toxic.
The Poison: Drill music about killing "opps," "Red Pill" podcasts, and "304" culture are toxic soil. They glorify death and misogyny.
The Joseph Bologne Rule: You must aggressively curate his inputs.
If he watches 2 hours of YouTube, he needs to read 30 minutes of history.
Expose him to Black men who are inventors, scientists (like Joseph Bologne, the Black Mozart), engineers, doctors, and fathers—not just rappers and ballplayers.
He cannot be what he cannot see.
The Bottom Line
We cannot legislate our way out of this. The police aren't coming to save us (stats prove they often arrive too late).
We have to save ourselves.
Vet your circle.
Lock your doors.
Raise your sons.
You are the gatekeeper of your bloodline. Act like it.

The Elephant in the Room: "What About White Supremacy?"
I know what some of you are thinking. You are reading this and thinking, "Why are we policing our own homes when the real enemy is White Supremacy? Why aren't we talking about what THEY are doing?"
Let me be clear: The entire 54/12 Project is a response to White Supremacy. Specifically, it is a response to the "School-to-Prison Pipeline," a system designed to extract our sons from the classroom and place them in a cage.
(For a deep dive on that specific battle, read our dedicated blogs on the [School-to-Prison Pipeline here].)
But today, we are talking about what we CAN control.
We have to be honest with ourselves: We cannot control white people. We cannot stop racism. History has taught us that racism isn't just "ignorance"—it is power. And for many, that power is fun. It is profitable. Even the most liberal "allies" often benefit from a system that keeps them on top, and deep down, many do not actually want equality if it costs them their comfort.
White Supremacy is not going anywhere. They are teaching their children to hate us out loud. They are passing laws to erase our history.
So, we have a choice:
We can waste our energy begging them to change their minds and "see our humanity."
Or we can band together and build a fortress.
We choose option two.
We cannot change their hearts, but we can change our stats. When we lower our crime rates, increase our literacy, and stabilize our families, we remove the weapons they use against us. When we vet our circles and raise emotionally intelligent Kings, we make it harder for their traps to work.
Our focus is not on changing them. Our focus is on legislation and litigation.
We band together to lobby for bills like SERRA.
We push for legal consequences that make racism expensive for them.
We build political power so that when racism happens, there are repercussions, not just fake apologies.
Stop trying to convince a system designed to destroy you to suddenly love you. It won't. Save that energy. Use it to build your Village.
